About Us

Northgate Support Services was founded by Laila Pera who recognized a need for quality support and services to our senior population. After many years in the service industry both in food and beverage and with Canada Post, Laila has had an opportunity to work with and for many of our community's seniors. Assisting seniors to stay happy and healthy in their own homes is the primary goal of Northgate Support Services. Dedication to our client's independence, comfortable lifestyle and a solid sense of peace and well-being is our mandate.

In 2007, a friend, who is a CPCA, told Laila about CASA, the Canadian Association of Senior Advisors. (now known as CPCA). She immediately enrolled in their course and is now a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging. This designation not only provided valuable training but has also led to becoming part of a large network of professionals that are dedicated to seniors (and boomers) and providing the wide variety of products and services our vibrant elder population demands.

"A Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) is a professional dedicated to providing the highest quality of service possible to their Boomer and Senior Clients. A CPCA has completed a rigorous course of instruction and passed a comprehensive exam demonstrating that they understand the processes of aging, and how these processes influence the health, social and financial considerations of mature Canadians. A CPCA must sign a Code of Professional Responsibility, and agree to abide by that Code, placing their clients’ best interests in the forefront at all times. These commitments are monitored by an independent Board of Standards, dedicated to preserving the integrity of the CPCA designation."

Starting in September, 2008, Laila will be writing a series of articles for South Cowichan Life, a community newspaper serving the southern Cowichan Valley.
